The Yiddish Arts and Academic Association of North America (YAAANA) and its project called Yiddishland California, based in San Diego, California, and in La Paz, MX, are looking for an Architecture intern. We are currently seeking an organized, energetic, and diligent individual to assist us in the early stages of planning a new living museum dedicated to the Yiddish language and culture. The intern will be in charge of assisting in research and/or designing a flyover plan for this project. No knowledge of the Yiddish language is required. Familiarity with Jewish culture is a plus. Our interns receive free access to all YAAANA events and classes, as well as access to the YAAANA archives.

Internships are unpaid, but can be taken for college credit. This internship is remote.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Interns will be involved in one of the following projects:

• Assisting in developing visual concepts and renderings for the proposed Yiddishland museum and cultural spaces.
• Conducting research on potential properties, including location, accessibility, and suitability for the museum site.
• Researching zoning, business, and regulatory requirements, and compile findings to support planning and decision-making.
• Supporting outreach and communication efforts with organizations or foundations related to project development.

Qualifications

• Completion of relevant architecture courses.
• Exceptional animation skills.
• Interest in helping create a new civic entity.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong initiative and creativity.

Skills Development

Interns will gain proficiency in all aspects of architectural research, including but not limited to methods and processes related to property search, zoning and business research.

The interns involved in the 3D animation project will gain relevant work experience developing visual concepts and renderings for the proposed Yiddishland museum and cultural spaces.

Estimated Duration

Full-time: preferably 8, minimum 6- week engagement with a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week, 270 hours total

Part-time: preferably 16, minimum 12-week engagement with a minimum commitment of 21 hours per week, 270 hours total

OPT: 21 hours per week, 270 hours total

Longer internships with a less demanding time commitment are available upon request.
