Job Description


The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing academic and career advisement to Tribal Members eligible to attend accredited post-secondary educational institutions. The Higher Education Academic and Career Advisor assists higher education students and high school/GED graduates to identify and refine educational and career goals based on their academic interests and abilities. The individual researches and identifies post-secondary educational institutions offering careers and programs based on career selections; counsels, advises, tutors, and assists students with programs requirements, enrollment and admission process and course selection; and monitors student's academic performance to help them achieve academic, personal, and career success. The Higher Education Academic and Career Advisor advises Tribal Members who seek to attend post-secondary educational institutions, and identifies high school and GED graduates and/or students who have withdrawn from higher education studies to return to school. Bachelor's Degree in Education or related filed is required. Master's degree is preferred. A minimum of three (3) years of experience working in an education field, and have familiarity with post-secondary institutions admissions process and requirements is required. Prior experience working in higher education administration, student affairs, student development or social work is preferred. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License is required. Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate excellent English written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate proficient computer skills utilizing Microsoft software programs. Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays is a requirement of this position.
