The Safety Engineer assists with the development and implementation of the site safety programs and collaborates with project staff to promote a safe and compliant work environment.ResponsibilitiesAssist in the development of the project site safety programEstablish and conduct jobsite orientation for every new employee for the project and administer and record their participation in the orientation program and issue identification to those employees completing the orientation programAttend all initial meetings with the Project Staff and Subcontractor representatives to clearly define their role within the confines of the Project Safety ProgramEstablish and conduct regular (weekly) safety meetings with project staff. Ensure and maintain a log of each toolbox safety meetings held with their employeesReview each Subcontractors Safety Program and ensure that it meets or exceeds the project Safety Program requirementsConduct regular (daily) jobsite and work area inspectionsConduct formal weekly jobsite inspections and complete the safety checklist noting safety violations and corrective actionsRecord, notify and prepare written report of any violations or unsafe practices to direct hire employees or Subcontractors for immediate correction actionsStop at once any violation or unsafe practiceAssist Project Superintendent in establishing and implementing safety procedures including evacuation and fire control proceduresInvestigate all incidents and generate proper reportsEstablish and maintain all required job safety recordsConduct a monthly overview safety meetingAssist the Claims Manager in the management of claimsAttend Project Staff Meetings to brief the staff on safety issues on the project and coming from the company and to keep informed of the progress of the jobQualificationsBachelor's degree is highly preferableA minimum of 5 years experience in heavy civil constructionWorking knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniquesCapable of identifying known/potential exposures and recommending corrective actionsComputer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programsStrong management, leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing10-hour and 30-hour OSHA certificates are preferredIDOT/TOLLWAY experience strongly preferredCHST or CSP designation is highly desirableAdditional Benefits offered by OHLA USA:Medical, Dental, & Vision InsuranceShort- and Long-Term Disability & Life Insurance401(k) retirement plan with employer matchingTuition Reimbursement after 1 year of employmentPersonal Time Off Program (PTO)Engaging work environmentAnd much more!!To learn more about OHLA USA, visit our website OHLA ADA Message: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
