Job Family: Scientist Travel Required: None Clearance Required: Ability to Obtain Public Trust What You Will Do: We are currently searching for Staff Scientist to provide senior-level bench expertise and scientific leadership for the priority research areas, while remaining responsive to related laboratory needs and evolving programmatic priorities while advancing the research mission of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD. Plan and execute prioritized studies; establish realistic experimental sequences and timelines; coordinate shared resources and collaborative dependencies Adapt plans in response to validated findings and NHLBI priorities Conduct experimental work using appropriate controls, biological and technical replicates, orthogonal validation where warranted, and transparent documentation of deviations, limitations, negative results, and unresolved findings. Perform or oversee appropriate statistical analyses and prepare accurate graphical and tabular representations of the data. Prepare and revise protocols, technical summaries, figures, manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, and scientific sections of grant or other research applications under government direction; protect unpublished, proprietary, controlled, or otherwise sensitive information. Communicate conclusions with appropriate qualification, present research plans and findings at laboratory meetings, branch reviews, collaborative meetings, and approved national or international conferences. Remain current with relevant scientific literature. Provide hands-on scientific instruction and mentorship to students, postbaccalaureate trainees, fellows, and other laboratory personnel. The mentorship may include topics such as experimental design, laboratory methods, data analysis, scientific writing, oral presentation, and responsible conduct of research. Promote constructive teamwork, facilitate transfer of technical knowledge, and provide scientific or organizational support for authorized laboratory, branch, and NIH committees, retreats, training activities, peer-review activities, and scientific outreach. Maintain complete, contemporaneous laboratory records, including electronic notebooks, source data, analysis files, code or calculation records where applicable, sample and reagent identifiers, and version-controlled protocols. Organize data so that results are traceable, reviewable, and usable by authorized laboratory personnel; support reagent, sample, and equipment tracking; and contribute to protocol standardization, quality control, and continuity of laboratory operations. Comply with all applicable NIH and NHLBI requirements for laboratory safety, biosafety, research integrity, information security, animal research, and research involving human specimens. Prepare or contribute scientific and technical material for applicable laboratory protocols, safety documentation, animal-use documentation, biosafety submissions, and other regulatory or administrative records under government direction. What You Will Need: Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology Minimum SIX (6) years of post-doc NIH biomedical research experience. Demonstrated expertise with advanced gene-delivery and genome editing strategies. Strong evidence of independent scientific leadership, publications, collaboration management and related skill sets. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “public trust”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
